Collectively, our team brings decades of experience across public and private markets, corporate finance, taxation, trust management, and estate execution. Members of our leadership group have served as Chief Financial Officers, corporate directors, advisors to entrepreneurs and families, and stewards of complex financial structures.

This breadth of experience allows us to approach each engagement with clarity, precision, and sound judgment. Estates and trusts often involve layered financial, legal, and personal considerations. Our multidisciplinary structure ensures that every matter is handled with care, accuracy, and continuity.

Our Team

Steven Krause, CPA, CA, CPA (Illinois), ICD.D, President and Director

Steven is a Chartered Professional Accountant in BC, has a CPA designation in the state of Illinois and also is member of the Institute of Corporate Directors of Canada. Steven has spent his entire 30-year career in accounting and finance. His experience extends to every corner of the estate execution process, including buying and selling of businesses, real estate transactions and dealing with family owned enterprises. His thoroughness and professionalism combined with his deep sense of personal accountability has earned him the loyalty of clients throughout his career. Steven has served and continues to serve as a chief financial offer and director of both private and public companies, which keeps him on top of constant regulatory and legislative changes. When he can’t be found, he’s usually off mountain biking somewhere.

Bernie Zacharias, CPA, CA, Director

As the Managing Partner and co-founder of Avisar Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs), Bernie brings a discerning sense for operational efficiency and a client-focused attitude that achieves results. With 25 years of experience working as a Chartered Professional Accountant advising clients on tax matters and wealth preservation, Bernie is passionate about working with entrepreneurial business owners who are excited to grow and expand their businesses. He has provided CFO services to companies in various sectors. By preparing financial forecasts and projections, as well as implementing tight accounting systems and internal controls, Bernie helps ensure that the companies he serves are in prime operating condition. He also leads the not-for-profit team at Avisar CPAs and, as an active volunteer himself participating on Non-Profit boards, appreciates the mission of Charities and Non-Profit Organizations to give back to society.

Bernie and his wife Sharon live in Langley with their three young adult children. Outside of his career and volunteer activities, Bernie enjoys spending time with family skiing at Whistler Blackcomb in the winter and boating in the summer.

Anil Jiwani, CPA, CA, Chief Financial Officer and Director

With nearly 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, Anil serves as a Director and Chief Financial Officer of Avisar Everyday Trust Company. As a Chartered Professional Accountant, he brings a wealth of experience in managing complex financial structures, including Trusts and Estates. He is committed to ensuring that clients’ financial strategies and wishes align with their long-term goals, while upholding the highest standard of integrity and transparency.

Anil also serves as the CFO of certain Reporting Issuers and is also the Chief Operating Officer of Avisar Everyday Solutions Ltd.

Outside of work, Anil enjoys spending time with his family and stays active through various sports. He also volunteers his time and knowledge for a not-for-profit educational institute as a finance member on its Board of Directors.

Logan Hanson, CPA, CA, Director

Logan Hanson brings over 15 years of experience in public accounting. He began his career at KPMG in 2009, earning his CPA designation in 2012. After completing the In-Depth Tax Program, Logan transitioned to a leadership role as CFO at Boast Capital. Currently, he serves as CTO at Bloom Technical, where he provides management consulting services, helping innovative tech companies secure refundable tax credits. Outside of work, Logan enjoys competitive board games, painting, and spending time with his dog.

Derek Herbert, CFA, CIM, Director

Derek has over 20 years of Capital Markets experience in both the public and private markets. He is former Vice-President and market maker on the Canadian equity markets for a major Canadian Bank. Derek is a CFA® charter holder who is currently a partner in a family office that has investments in various business enterprises. He can be found biking the local mountains, analyzing the markets or cheering on his unnamed Eastern hockey team.

Bernice Kristoff-Trowell, Trust Officer & Corporate Secretary, CGA, TEP

Bernice brings a creative problem-solving approach and out-of-the-box thinking to the task of estate execution – highly valued skills despite the heavily regulated nature of the job. Her certification in Estate and Trust Administration allows her to provide much needed insight into trust and estate planning matters, and to handle end-of-life tax affairs with practical compassion.
